Our Story
From Mango Lovers to Mango Purveyors
Thirty five years (1986) and 32,000 mangoes ago we moved into a South Miami house with seven large, beautiful and precociously productive mango trees. And they were great mangoes! Like hitting the jackpot! Our family’s mango courtship developed from just plain mangoes, sweet & juicy to mango shakes, sorbet and ice, mango bread, mango chicken, mango salsa and mango lassis. We shared mangoes with family, friends and neighbors. We shipped mangoes all round’ the country to them. One summertime our kids took on selling mangoes in the neighborhood and they earned valuable ‘life’ experience and some decent spending money. And at the times we just had more mangoes we could handle we were grateful the neighborhood ice cream parlor (Whip’n’Dip) accepted our Haden mangoes in return for credit at their shop…imagine the calories!
In 2014, we again had an overabundance of mangoes and did some mango market research. Why not run a small enterprise to pay for maintaining our lovely trees and taking care of shipping costs to family & friends? So we took a lot of time tasting and evaluating mangoes from near and far, from fruit stands and festivals, and we thought most online providers were fairly expensive. We wanted our mangoes to be reasonably priced and affordable. That year miamimangoes.com was born, and we now have a loyal following of customers all over the country.
Presently, the 2023 season looks great, but each mango year is different. The trees have a mind of their own, so we never are totally sure of shipments until close to harvest time. Some years we can have over 4,000 mangoes, but most years the trees yield an average of 2500 mangoes. Out of those, we ship only the exceptional ones. And unfortunately we only have time for a limited number of customers and … we compete with hungry squirrels! So if you are an experienced mango hunter, please seriously consider trying us out and you won’t be disappointed. If this is the first time you’re mango shopping, we’re pretty darn certain we’ll spoil you because after having sampled 40 years’ worth of Miami’s mangoes from city ‘local stands’, mango festivals, and from Florida statewide mango producers, we honestly believe that we offer online some of the best mango fruit in South Florida.
Happy mango hunting and wishing you sweet success,
