The Haden Mango
Haden (aka Hayden) is a large roundish mango that is exceptionally sweet with flavors of peach and pineapple. A beautifully colored mango, it turns from dark green and red to a vibrant, bright orange with pretty freckles. This mango was developed by Captain John Haden of Coconut Grove in the early 1900’s and is ‘grandpappa’ to over 30 varieties. Haden ripens from mid May through June and around the pit it has some fiber which is extremely sweet!
The Fascell Mango
The Fascell mango is a sweet and sophisticated mango with flavors of peach, caramel, rose blossoms and a hint of citrus. Wonderfully aromatic, it is especially good refrigerated, with very little fiber and a thin pit. Its color turns from green and pinkish red fairly quickly to a beautiful rose blush. In 1945, Fascell became the first mango cultivar ever patented in Florida; it is a cross between a Haden and a Brooks variety. Fascells ripen from late June through early August and have a medium to large oblong shape.
